Mike Huckabee has given his support and endorsement of Senator John McCain as the Republican nominee for president. He has not wavered on this since John McCain reached the 1191 delegates needed to clinch the nomination after the March 4th primaries. Since this time Governor Huckabee has had numerous speaking engagements, generally centered on the conservative ideals and issues which attracted many to his recently concluded presidential run. He has also started HUCKPAC, a 527 political action committee which supports candidates that holds similar conservative ideals. Governor Huckabee had questioned when or if Senator McCain would call to assist the republican nominee. Well…the call has come
Governor Huckabee will campaign with Senator McCain when he visits Arkansas next week to attend a fundraiser in Little Rock. It is expected that Huckabee will join McCain in campaign stops in Alabama, Kentucky, and Louisiana as well. This comes as a good first step in the McCain camp to reach out to social conservatives who strongly supported Governor Huckabee during his recently concluded presidential run. However, this is only the first of many necessary steps for the McCain campaign to gain any traction among social conservatives. Rumors continue to circulate as Huckabee appears to be on a list of possible running mates for John McCain’s ticket. Huckabee continually says he doesn’t expect to be McCain’s VP choice using a cliché of “not waiting by the phone hoping to be asked to the prom”.
It will be interesting to see after this next week if this campaigning leads to a continued active role and/or possible VP selection for Mike Huckabee. However, social conservatives should be wary as well. This could end up being just one of many token gestures by the McCain camp attempting to pander to social conservatives long enough to get our vote in November. Social conservatives and all conservatives should send a message that is loud and clear to the McCain camp…empty words, phrases, or sound bites can’t and won’t cut it. If you say it, you better display it

It will interesting to see how much influence Gov. Huckabee really has — even among members of his own “alliance.” That is because there is simply no chance McCain picks Huckabee as VP. Surely you understand how he is viewed outside of a segment of evangelicals, even among many conservatives. McCain does not need all that controversy (Judicialwatch.org top 10 most corrupt politicians) and too many people simply consider him unexceptable as a potential President (from conservatives to moderates and independents).
So, how really influential and persuasive is Huckabee? He endorses and supports and campaigns for McCain. Without getting in to the ridiculous “no one tells us how to vote” nonsense (we understand people always make up their own mind), when McCain picks someone else for VP does Huckabee have much influence among his evangelical supporters?

Gov. Huckabee will be a wonderful asset to Sen. Mccain in the campaign; I hope that McCain will employ Huckabee’s oration skills and appeal to the working class in more than just dressing for his campaign. He should be the VP.

I really enjoyed seeing how happy the two of them were together. They’re just like old lost brothers joshing around about this that and the other without a care in this world. It was good to see. I hope McCain knows Jesus.
